Reflecting on Nine Years of Amplifying Impact

As Amplify Consulting Inc. celebrates its 9th year in business, it feels like a good moment to pause and reflect on the journey so far. Over the past nine years, the company has grown through strong relationships, providing communications and engagement support for incredibly meaningful projects, and a team committed to helping organizations build their reputation to amplify their impact.

We asked our CEO, Aleece Laird, to reflect on the early days of Amplify, the lessons learned along the way, and what continues to set the tone for the work we all do today.

Q. When you think back to the early days of Amplify, what did you hope it would become and how has that vision evolved over the past 9 years?

In the early days of business, at least for me since this is the second business I started from scratch, it wasn’t about what the business would become, but more what the services and support Amplify could offer to help others amplify their impact. I did truly start out thinking Amplify would be just me, but as demand grew and the need for expertise outside of what I could provide increased, growing into  a team was a strategic next step.

Q. What has been one defining moment or turning point that shaped Amplify Consulting Inc. into the company it is today?

I don’t think there has been one defining moment or turning point in our nine-year history, rather a series of small yet important moments that have impacted what we do and how we conduct our work. The foundation of the companyis based on our core values of flexibility, common sense, integrity, and creativity, and that guides how we do our work and who we hire as team members. From that foundation, it has been about connections and treating our clients with respect and care. From those happy clients - many who have been with us since day one - to today, our business has grown primarily on referrals, solidifying why building a strong reputation is one of an organization’s most important assets.

Q. Over the years, what have you learned most about leadership both about leading a company and leading people?

I think for me there are a few key pieces:

- You are human and will make mistakes. I admit freely to our team that I make mistakes, and that I need their support to help me make less through their expertise and knowledge.

- Team culture cannot be underestimated and will erode everything you’ve worked to build. Culture is key.

- Delegate your weaknesses. The work that I’m not good at I delegate to those who excel in that area. They do that work with great excitement and incredible results.

- I check in with myself often to ensure I’m doing things for the right reason, aligned with our core values.

Q. As Amplify is entering its 10th year, what feels most important to focus on in this next season?

Looking at the future is key to see what is happening in technology and in innovations and adopting what we can, and should, well. Also, ensuring we continue to fine tune the work we do every day, checking in with our clients on regular intervals to find out their key objectives and ensuring the work we do is still the right work to help them reach those objectives.

A lot of the work can be head down working ‘in’ the business while still ensuring there is time and capacity to work ‘on’ the business. I’m excited about the projects we have worked on, are working on, and what the future holds leading alongside our awesome team and collaborators.

A special thank you to those who trust our team – we are grateful to our clients, partners, and collaborators who trust us. It truly feels like fun and a great challenge to us!
